| Mark & Kiyomi Eschoe
In
Kingston, Jamaica at age 7, Mark Eschoe or Eschoe as everyone calls
him, discovered the world of filmmaking after watching the classic
Spaghetti western movie “Gunfight at the OK Corral." Walking out of the
Caribbean movie theater that day with his father, Eschoe became
inspired to make movies.
Now years later, the DeKalb County
transplant is making an impact in the film industry. As a filmmaker he
noticed the need for filmmakers of color to promote their works in the
Atlanta area.
Dissatisfied with the lack of outlets here in
metro-Atlanta area he decided to provide a platform for urban
filmmakers. He and his wife Kiyomi created the nationally recognized
film festival, “The Spaghetti Junction Urban Film Festival,” which name
came from his first short film titled “Spaghetti Junction” from his
love affair with Spaghetti westerns and Flatbush Junction ,where he
attended Film School at Brooklyn College. Ironically, years later when
he moved to Atlanta from Brooklyn, New York, Spaghetti Junction was
also the name of one of the city’s major highway intersections.
